Château de Les Cars
The home of the Pérusse family, important members of the French royal household from the 14th to the 17th century, the castle of Les Cars has a unique position in the Monts de Châlus. Archaeological discoveries have revealed the splendour of the site during the Renaissance while the ruins show how architecture was adapted to the use of firearms during the Wars of Religion. In spite of destruction during the Revolution, one can still visit what remains of the site, principally two towers, pavilions and magnificent stables decorated with frescoes.
An exhibition bringing together plans, models, archaeological finds and stonework illustrates the magnificence of the site in its heyday.
Furthermore, a digital reconstruction of the castle and its surroundings allows a virtual visit to the site as it may have been at the beginning of the 17th century.
